Luke 1:30-31 NIV
But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favour with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus.”
On the day Angel Gabriel visited Mary, Mary had no idea who was coming to her house or the reason for the visit. She had no idea that God’s appointed time for the promise of Messiah to be fulfilled had come. She had no idea that she would carry the life of her Saviour in her.
Mary’s story is a story of a heart prepared for God’s visitation. When Mary heard Angel Gabriel’s words, she was puzzled. She could not believe because she was a virgin. But when the angel gave her more details, she knew it was time to believe.
Luke 1:38; “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.”
Mary believed. She believed that which was impossible would come true.
How many times have we not submitted to God’s will? Though Mary was not expecting this new twist in her life, she submitted. That is faith. Mary submitted to God’s will. She said yes to God’s plan for her life. She had an obedient and submissive heart. Are you willing to say, ‘Yes Lord’ to whatever task He calls you to?
This holiday season, as we remember the birth of Jesus, may our hearts welcome the reality of His presence. May our faith respond to His presence and promises. May we surrender our lives to His will and purpose for our lives and say, ‘Yes, Lord’.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, help us to learn to have faith in your gracious promises like Mary did.
