Luke 4:18 NKJV
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed.”
When he was given the scrolls to read in the synagogue on the Sabbath day, Jesus reads the above portion found in the writings of prophet Isaiah. This is his mission statement, the reason why he came. One thing he came to do is to heal the broken-hearted.
Many people even believers are walking around with wounded and broken hearts. Hearts wounded by sin and disappointment. Words that were spoken in anger, promises that were never kept, relationships that were abusive along with so many other things that break our hearts. The pain of a broken heart can lead to hopelessness unforgiveness and depression. This can lead one into a very dark hole where you feel life is not worth living but that is a lie from the enemy. Remember the enemy comes but to kill to steal and destroy, but, Jesus came that we may have life and life abundantly. Jesus is the cure to a wounded and broken heart.
Psalms 34:18 NKJV
The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, And saves such as have a contrite spirit.
If you are broken-hearted, you are not alone, God is near and he is willing to not only save you but also to heal you. He promises that all things will work out together for good to those who love him, those called according to his purposes.
As the song says, cast your burdens unto Jesus for he cares for you. Don’t focus on the persons or situations that have broken and wounded your heart, instead focus on God and worshiping him. Cry out to him and he will strengthen you and heal your broken heart. Trust him, he is faithful.
