John 4:23
23 But a time is coming and is already here when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit [from the heart, the inner self] and in truth; for the Father seeks such people to be His worshipers.
Worship in simple language simply means worth ship. The worth you place on something. When we worship we are saying that God is worthy and that is why we sing and talk about His power, goodness and splendor.
I once heard of a man who bought a brand new Mercedes Benz and the man literally worshiped this car. He spent hours each week washing and polishing this car and it was all he could think of. Sometimes he would sit at his balcony just looking at his car. I mean, the man was consumed. He was so consumed that he would not even allow his wife to drive this car. It featured in all his conversations, and each time a friend popped in to visit, he spent hours showing them the car and the many accessories that it had. The man worshiped his car.
Many of us think that worship is the slow songs we sing in church and that’s it. How consumed with God are you? Does He pop up in your conversations or do you only talk about Him when you pray and Sundays when you go to church? Is He really worthy to you? If somebody was to look at how you live your life the rest of the week apart from Sunday, would they be able to say that you truly value God and that your love for Him is demonstrated in the way you live your life?
1 Chronicles 16:29 (AMP)
29 Ascribe to the LORD the glory and honor due His name; Bring an offering [of thanksgiving], and come before Him; Worship the LORD in the splendor of holiness.
Worship is not something that we go to. It is not something we attend. It is not something we observe. Worship is not an event and neither is it entertainment. Worship is an action. It is something that you and I do. It is a lifestyle. This means that we can go to church and not necessarily worship. It means that we can show up in the sanctuary Sunday after Sunday; but in reality, be totally absent from worship. When we truly worship we get such a satisfaction we don’t have to look around for man-made substitutes. To truly worship is to wholeheartedly give God first place in your life, not just with a song on a Sunday morning, but more so in how you live your life the rest of the week. It is to truly have no other gods before Him.
How much He is worth to you is demonstrated for all to see by the way you live your life!
