Worried about the Future?

Four years ago at a time like this I was a worried man. I was anxious about the future and what it held for me and my family. Slowly I was sinking into a depression. I had just lost my job something that I had not foreseen and nothing promising was evident in the near future. Days were long and the future looked bleak and all I could do was worry. Friends would tell me that God had a good plan and that it would all work out for my good and they left it at that. Very few cared enough to dig a little further to find out what we needed and how we were surviving. That was one of the hardest seasons of testing I have gone through.

Matthew 6:34
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Many of us worry about the future and what it holds for us. We worry about our kids and what they will become, we worry about retirement and how life will be. We look around and we have no investment of any sort and we worry about the security of our future. We worry about the jobs we are doing because every other day’s people are being laid off.

Jesus tells us not to worry about tomorrow for each day has its own trouble. Our God is the same yesterday today and forever. He tells us in Jeremiah 29:11 that he has a good plan for our life. How I pray that we would believe his words. The problem with many of us is that we want to be in control. We want to know exactly how things will work out. We want to have the map before we make a move. We want to have the resources and investments in our hand to feel like we have a safe future.
God is the alpha and omega and as we SEEK HIM FIRST then we should always remain assured that our future is secure in him. Not just our future here on earth but also in eternity for Christ promised us that he has gone to prepare a place for us and he will come back to take us to himself. It’s amazing how many people worry about their future here on earth but the same people do not care about eternity.

Looking back today 4 years on, God did take care of all that I was worried about. He had a good plan all along and everything came together in his time. In fact he gave me back that which was wrongfully taken away from me and even more. Looking back today I wonder why I wasted one and a half years worrying instead of enjoying the time off believing that God was taking me to a higher place.

Are you worried about the future? Don’t, enjoy what you have today and trust in the one who is present in that future today, he will take good care of you.
