Hebrews 3:12-14
12 My friends, watch out! Don’t let evil thoughts or doubts make any of you turn from the living God. 13 You must encourage one another each day. And you must keep on while there is still a time that can be called “today.” If you don’t, then sin may fool some of you and make you stubborn. 14 We were sure about Christ when we first became his people. So let’s hold tightly to our faith until the end.
What do you do when you hear the words “Watch Out?” You become cautious and alert. Those words mean some danger lurks ahead be careful lest you find yourself in trouble. The writer of Hebrews tells us to watch out, but what are watching out for? Evil thoughts and doubt that is where the danger is because though they may seem innocent, if you allow them in your life it’s a guarantee they will turn you away from God. What are these evil thoughts? They are thoughts that do not align themselves to the word of God. Thoughts that would cause you to doubt all that God’s word says He is. These are thoughts that are aligned to the way the world thinks.
Proverbs 4:23 tells us that as a man thinks so is he. Our thoughts are so important and powerful that several times in the bible we are warned about the dangers of evil thoughts and encouraged in the way that we should think.
Philippians 4:8 (CEV)
8 Finally, my friends, keep your minds on whatever is true, pure, right, holy, friendly, and proper. Don’t ever stop thinking about what is truly worthwhile and worthy of praise.
The moment we draft away from this kind of thinking then fear doubt evil thoughts and unbelief take center stage and they lead us away from God.
The secret to remain focused and in the right frame of mind is to encourage each other daily, and we are to continue doing so as long as it is still called today. Wow! You know what that tells me? I need you and you need me, none of us can make it on our own. God so designed this journey in such a way that we have to stick together if we are to make it in Him. Do you encourage others daily or do you sow seeds of fear and discouragement to every individual that God brings your way.
Watch out!!! Keep off evil thoughts and doubt because they will lead you away from God. Be the encourager that each one of us needs. Encourage someone today!
