5 Days of Praise Day 3
2The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and the One who rescues me; My God, my rock and strength in whom I trust and take refuge; My shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower—my stronghold.
3 I call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised; And I am saved from my enemies.
Proud people boast about their strengths and capabilities. They compare themselves to others and in their eyes they always come out better, it is always about them. When we praise God, it gets us to a place where the focus is no longer on us and our abilities or what we have. We are not the main player and like John the Baptist we say “may I decrease that He may increase.”
When we praise God it reminds us that we are totally dependent on Him, in fact it takes the pressure off us, pressure we were never meant to carry in the first place. To praise God is to acknowledge that we cannot do it on our own; it is to acknowledge that we are dependent on Him because He is the great I am.
When we praise God, we elevate Him in our sight and that changes our perspective, we begin to see things differently. The more I praise Him the bigger I see Him and the smaller my problems become in comparison to Him. One of the key things that a good number of people have shared with me as we go through this 5 days of praise challenge is that fact that when they made the choice to focus on God and totally praise him, their hearts were filled with so much Joy and they felt like a burden had been lifted from them. In the natural things had not changed but somehow they felt happier and lighter.
Praise will set you free, free from the bondage and burdens that wear us down when we make the choice to focus on self instead of praising and elevating God in our life. One thing I find interesting is the fact that the psalms which were mostly written by David are filled with praise for God and it is that same David that God said “He is a man after my own heart”
May we humble ourselves before the Lord and praise Him and like John the Baptist may we decrease that he may increase.
