If you are to start a business, you need some form of capital. It could be money or resources or labor or even an Idea. There must be some form of capital, some form of investment that you put in if the business is to get off the ground. God needed some capital, He needed some investment if He was to buy us back and redeem us from the curse. The capital was love and Jesus was the only one who could deliver and demonstrate that love. This is the one demonstration that we are to look to if we are to compare the relationship between husband and wife.
Ephesians 5:33
33 However, each man among you [without exception] is to love his wife as his very own self [with behavior worthy of respect and esteem, always seeking the best for her with an attitude of loving kindness], and the wife [must see to it] that she respects and delights in her husband [that she notices him and prefers him and treats him with loving concern, treasuring him, honoring him, and holding him dear].
If marriage were a business, then love and respect would be the capital needed to get the business off the ground and running smoothly. Husbands are admonished to love their wives as Christ loved the church and gave himself for her. The amplified bible describes this as to; seek the highest good for her and surround her with a caring, unselfish love. The love of Jesus towards us is unconditional, many have rejected it but it is available to them anyway. Jesus does not love us because we are good, He loves us because He is good and that’s how a husband ought to love his wife, unselfishly, according to Gods word.
The wife on the other hand is told to respect and delight in her husband. To notice him (not his short comings) to prefer him and treat him with concern treasuring him, honoring him and holding him dear. Notice, this is also not conditional, it should not be dependent on what the husband does or does not do.
Is your marriage thriving?
If not, could it be that there is lack where capital is concerned?
Have you denied your spouse what God demands of you because you are holding a grudge or are offended because of what they did or did not do?
If marriage was a business and it was done Gods way, you would always make huge profits each time every time and the business would thrive. The blue print is simple; Husband love your wife as Christ loved the church, seek the highest good for her and surround her with a caring, unselfish love. Wife on the other hand, respect and delight in your husband, notice him and prefer him and treat him with loving concern, treasure him, honor him, and hold him dear.
