Philippians 2:15
15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;
Charles Spurgeon said, “A man’s life is always more forcible than his speech. When men take stock of him they reckon his deeds as dollars and his words as pennies. If his life and doctrine disagree the mass of onlookers accept his practice and reject his preaching”.
This one thing is for sure, we live in the midst of a perverse and crooked generation and we all agree the days are evil. Some of that darkness is slowly creeping into the church and some of us do not know what to do about it and thus we complain. Remember Paul tells us in verse 14 to do everything without complaining and murmuring. All things here refer to verse 12 which tells us to work out our salvation with fear and trembling. We are to work out what God has already worked on the inside of us. He has already given you and I the strength both to will and do.
We are to be blameless by not conforming to the patterns of this world, we are not to think like the world does nor are we to live as they do, we must be different. If we think like the world we will only add to the darkness. We must display the nature of the God who lives on the inside of us and remember God is light and in Him there is no darkness. Working on the outside what has been done on the inside.
We must be different, we must stand out. God is calling us to be an example. We cannot claim to be undercover Christians, conforming to the world when in public yet claiming to love God.
In the midst of a crooked generation we must be straight, we must stand up for what we believe in knowing full well that it will cost us something because the world will push us to be as crooked as it is and reject us when we stand for righteousness.
The world should not be experiencing a power blackout because you and I are here. We are called to shine our lights wherever God has planted us, in our families and neighborhoods, in our schools and work places as the songs says, “This little light of mine, am gonna let it shine!”
Do not complain about the darkness around you, God has put you there for a reason….switch on your light!
