Why The Holy Spirit?

Acts 1:8 (AMP)
8 But you will receive power and ability when the Holy Spirit comes upon you; and you will be My witnesses [to tell people about Me] both in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and Samaria, and even to the ends of the earth.”

An amazing thing happened in the first chapter of the book of Acts. The disciples were behind closed doors in prayer wondering what next. Suddenly there was the sound like that of a mighty rushing wind and the were filled with the Holy Spirit. They were endured with power from on high and the very same people who were at one time fearful and in hiding were now bold and daring proclaiming the good news of the kingdom.

The Holy Spirit gave them power, He gave them boldness, He gave them knowledge and understanding, He empowered them with whet they needed to fulfill the mission. The power of God is demonstrated and expressed through the Holy Spirit and that’s is why we need Him. We cannot fulfill the mission of God for our lives without being empowered by the Holy Spirit. Jesus Himself had to be empowered with the Holy Spirit before he began His public ministry and this happened when He was baptized by John the Baptist.

1 Corinthians 2:10-11 (NIV)
10 these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11 For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.

We need the Holy Spirit to teach us and direct us because He knows the thoughts of God because He is God.
Even with what we are facing in the world today with the Corona Virus, we need the Holy Spirit to direct us and to empower us to walk in the wisdom and power of God because this has not caught God by surprise.

May we in this season recognize that we need the Spirit of God in our lives more than ever. May we seek Him, may we be quick to hear His voice and most importantly may we be quick to walk in His counsel and demonstration of His power.
