Luke 1:34-35
Mary said to the angel, “How will this be, since I am a virgin and have no intimacy with any man?” Then the angel replied to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you [like a cloud]; for that reason, the holy (pure, sinless) child shall be called the Son of God.
What happens when God kind of “springs up” on you and according to you it’s not yet time and you don’t feel ready? Lots of bible scholars believe that Mary was in her late teens when she was visited by angel Gabriel. Interesting that her relative Elizabeth who is well advanced in years and has been barren also conceives in this season. It seems that God is early for Mary and late for Elizabeth but when God’s purposes become evident to us, then we realize that God is always on time. Both in the case of Mary and Elizabeth it took a heavenly intervention for them to conceive and therein lies the truth that you and I should hold on to. When we look at ourselves and our ability, when we look at our ways and how we do life, then we limit what God can accomplish in and through us.
It is through the power of God that God’s purposes are activated and they come to pass. Think about Joseph, he was given his dreams when he was just a teenager, David was also anointed as king when he was just a teenager. Was God too early? Not at all, this was all in his plan and purpose and David and Joseph relied on Him to bring to pass that which he had declared. What if a young David who was looked down upon by his brothers had declined and said it was too early and he was not king material? I wonder, how many people have lost opportunities because they felt they were inadequate and not good enough?
The same applied to Mary, all this did not make sense from a human perspective but she chooses to put her trust in God that he was able to accomplish that which he had declared. She said the famous words, “Be it unto me according to your words!”
Has God opened up an opportunity for you and it seems to have come early it seems like you are too young or you are not adequately equipped? Do not fret and do not be afraid, Gods timing is always the best and look to him, not on your lack of ability, it is he who will make it good!
