What is Worship?

Psalm 96:9 (NKJV)
9 Oh, worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness! Tremble before Him, all the earth.
Many would think that worship is the slow songs we sing in church because we say praise referring to the fast songs and worship referring to the slow songs. Some would also think that giving in church is worship or maybe serving in church in whatever capacity. These may be expressions of worship but they do not define what true worship is.
Worship can also be defining as worth ship, the worth you place on something or someone. Another definition of worship is to lie prostate in homage to royalty or God. It is to willingly bow down in reverence. True worship can be defined as the priority we place on who God is in our lives and where He falls in our list of priorities.
As much as we can go through the motions and activities, we consider to be worship, they may all be in vain if they are not from your heart. Jesus said;
Matthew 15:8-9 NKJV
8 ‘These people [a]draw near to Me with their mouth, And honor Me with their lips,
But their heart is far from Me.9 And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’
We can run around the church and sing at the top of our voices in harmony and even shed a few tears and leave the service saying that the worship was really powerful but if our hearts were not into it, Jesus says that all that is in vain!
We can not be all emotional on Sunday and yet the rest of the week we are living like the devil and still claim that we are worshipers.
To worship the Lord with our hearts means that we are giving Him more than just lip service, to walk in obedience to His word is the ultimate act of worship.
We worship God because He is God and there is none that can compare or even come close to who He is! It is only when we have that revelation in our hearts that we can respond to him in reverence honor and adoration.
You can never truly worship unless you have a revelation of who God truly is!
