Mark 6:47-48 NKJV
Now when evening came, the boat was in the middle of the sea; and He was alone on the land. Then He saw them straining at rowing, for the wind was against them. Now about the fourth watch of the night, He came to them, walking on the sea, and would have passed them by.
The disciples must have gone through an emotional roller coaster. Here they were in the middle of the sea, in the middle of the night rowing the boat with all their might and hardly making any progress for the wind was against them. All this right after experiencing victory in ministry after feeding the 5000.
The disciples had been in this kind of situation before but Jesus was with them in the boat sleeping but when they woke him up he calmed the storm. This time around Jesus was not with them in the boat to calm the storm, they were all alone, or so it seemed.
Many times it seems so even for us when we are going through a storm. We look around and wonder where Jesus is. We feel alone and abandoned and we even make assumptions and believe the lie of the enemy that God does not love us anymore.
Though it was at night and Jesus was not with them in the boat, the bible says Jesus saw them straining to row the boat and he came to them walking on the water. We are never alone even when we have to go through dark and stormy times.
Psalms 23:4 NKJV
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
It may feel like we are alone, but we are never alone. God is always watching over us. Jesus promised to never leave us nor forsake us and he is faithful to his word. Yes, we will have to walk through the dark valley of death, and sometimes it may seem like a lifetime. Remember Jesus came to them during the 4th of the night meaning 3 am in the night. They had been in that boat for more than 9 hours but Jesus was watching over them all this time.
Are you going through a dark valley? You are not alone you are never alone. God is watching over you.
Reflections.
What was the last storm you went through?
Did you feel alone and neglected? What happened?
What are some other verses that affirm that we are never alone and that God is always with us?
