John 4:23-24 NKJV
23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.
Before Jesus said these words to the Samaritan woman, he told her that the Samaritans, worship what they do not know. To worship God in truth means that we must first know the truth about who he is and why he is worthy of worship. To worship in truth means that we do not allow our circumstances to distort our image of who God is and also to remember that he changes not, hence the truth that he is worthy of worship all the time.
But even most important, to worship God in truth is to worship him through Jesus our Lord.
Remember Jesus said;
John 14:6 NKJV
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
Jesus is the only way that leads to the father, he is the only truth that reveals the father and he is the life that comes from the father. This means that you cannot worship God in truth unless you worship through Jesus Christ because he is the truth that reveals God the father. Any other worship that is not rooted in Christ is not acceptable before God the father.
Remember Jesus said on the last day many would come claiming the miracles they did in his name and he will turn them away saying, depart from me you workers of iniquity, I never knew you. What they did was not rooted in him.
As much as many today would say that we all worship the same God, he only accepts worship that is founded on the truth that is Jesus Christ. Remember, anything out of Jesus does not lead to God the father.
Is your worship affected by your circumstances or is it rooted in who God is? What you know and believe about God affects how you worship. What have you believed about God? Is your worship founded on the truth that is Jesus or are you worshiping based on something else?
