Understanding the Holy Spirit: Role of the Holy Spirit

John 14:16-17 NKJV
“And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another [a]Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.”
One key word that jumps out in this verse is the word HELPER. Jesus and God the Father saw it fit to send every believer a helper, the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of truth whom the world cannot receive because they do not know him. Unfortunately and sadly, a good number of believers don’t know him as well.
Why did Jesus send us the Holy Spirit? Because we need help with our God given assignment once we get born again. We cannot accomplish it in our own strength. It is through the Holy Spirit that the power of God flows through our life.
Jesus said that the Holy Spirit would testify of him and teach us about him. The Holy Spirit is a teacher, he teaches us the word of God and he reveals to us who the glorified Jesus is. Sadly many believers do not attend class because we do not even have the realization that we have a personal teacher, the Holy Spirit.
John 16:12-13 NKJV “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.”
Not only does the Holy Spirit teach us, he guides us into all truth, now that’s amazing. Remember that our enemy is the master deceiver and he was able to deceive Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden, an atmosphere that was devoid of sin. We need the Holy Spirit to constantly guide us into ALL TRUTH! Not only does he guide us, he also tells us of the things that are to come. He is the Spirit of Prophesy.
1 Corinthians 12:4 “There are [d]diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works [e]all in all.”
The Holy Spirit also came to give us spiritual gifts which empower us to serve one another in the body of Christ. Looking at just a few of the reasons why the Holy Spirit came and how beneficial they are to us as believers, does this not create a hunger and desire to know him even the more? I hope it does, because with the Holy Spirit, God has truly set us up for success!
Are you accessing and using all the help available to you through the Holy Spirit? What are some of the things hindering you from knowing and experiencing the help available through the Holy Spirit? Knowing that you have access to such unbelievable help, what are you going to do about it?
