Understanding the Holy Spirit: Led By The Spirit

Romans 8:14- 15 AMP
“For all who are allowing themselves to be led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading again to fear [of God’s judgment], but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons [the Spirit producing sonship] by which we [joyfully] cry, “[b]Abba! Father!”
For you to be led by the Spirit, you must first be a child of God meaning you have embraced Christ as your Lord and savior and the Holy Spirit lives in you.
The amplified Bible says that all who are allowing themselves to be led; That means that we have a choice in the matter. Its not like the Holy Spirit comes and takes over our lives to direct us in the way that we should go, we have to give him the permission to do so, we have to allow ourselves to be led by him and that is where the struggle begins for many of us.
We must set our minds on the things of the Spirit if we are to be led by the Spirit and not things of the flesh. We cannot live our life based on gratifying the desires of the flesh and expect to be led by the Spirit.
To be led by the Spirit means that we are right in the perfect will of God for our life. Sometimes the Spirit of God will lead us in areas and situations that may cause us to doubt because it will not be what we expect or want. Think about Jesus being led into the wilderness by the Holy Spirit to be tempted by the devil, or the same Jesus being led by the Spirit to the cross at Calvary to be crucified. Not very pleasant situations to be in but it was by the leading of the Holy Spirit. This much I have taken note of, where the Holy Spirit leads you, he will sustain you.
The Holy Spirit will lead us through various ways and means but most importantly it will be through the word of God. If you are a believer yearning for the Holy Spirit to lead you, you must develop a deep love for the word of God because when you do, then the Holy Spirit will not only teach you, but he will also lead you into all truth. Even with the other ways in which the Holy Spirit leads us, it will never be contrary to His word!
Do you claim to be a child of God? Remember our key verse tells us that they that allow themselves to be led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God!
For the Spirit to lead you, you must develop a relationship with him, how is that coming along? Do you have instances in your life where you have allowed yourself to be led by the Spirit? What happened? Jesus was consistently led by the Spirit in all he did, what do you need to do to get to the place where you can say the same for your life?
