Exodus 40:4-5 NKJV
You shall bring in the table and arrange the things that are to be set in order on it; and you shall bring in the lampstand and light its lamps. You shall also set the altar of gold for the incense before the ark of the Testimony, and put up the screen for the door of the tabernacle.
After the outer court of the tabernacle, which had the bronze altar and lavar, the next place was the holy place. Only the priests could enter the holy place and perform certain rituals to honour God. They represented the people to God in this place.
Once they entered the Holy Place, the priests would see the table of show bread to their right. There was a golden lampstand to their left, and an altar of incense ahead, just in front of the veil separating the holy place and the holy of holies.
The priests placed 12 loaves of unleavened bread on the table, representing the 12 tribes of Israel. The bread was removed on Sabbath and eaten by the priests in the holy place. This bread was also called the bread of the presence. Jesus also said that he is the bread of life, only his presence can sustain us.
The priests also tended to the golden lamp stand which was the only source of light in the holy place because there were no windows. Remember, Jesus said that He is the light of the world. That light was never to go out, just like the light of Christ shines forever.
At the altar of incense, the priests burned sweet-smelling incense every morning and evening. The smoke from the incense would rise to the ceiling, go through the opening above the veil, and filled the Holy of Holies during the high priest’s annual rite. This altar represents the prayers that Jesus makes for us, for the Bible says that he continually makes intercession for us.
All the items in the holy place were made of gold, which speaks of deity.
What do you lean on for sustenance, is it your job, your savings, your connections, or Christ?
Jesus is the light of the world, are you walking with him or are you walking I’m darkness?
How is your prayer life?
