The Power of the Tongue: Protection

Proverbs 13:3 (AMP)
3 The one who guards his mouth [thinking before he speaks] protects his life;

The one who opens his lips wide [and chatters without thinking] comes to ruin.
Guarding your mouth will not only keep you from trouble as we learned yesterday, it will also protect your life! To protect is to keep safe from harm or injury. The opposite is true for those who speak without putting much thought to what they say. Their life will ultimately come to ruin.

Proverbs 12:6 (AMP)
6 The [malevolent] words of the wicked lie in wait for [innocent] blood [to slander], But the mouth of the upright will rescue and protect them.

The wicked may lie in wait and plan to slander you but this verse is such an encouragement. When they do so, do not join the band wagon, do not retaliate to slander them in return because if you do so then like them, your tongue will also bring you to ruin. Instead, maintain your integrity and use your tongue to speak life and to bless just like Jesus instructed us to bless those who persecute us. When you do so, your mouth will rescue and protect you!

Proverbs 12:19 (AMP)
19 Truthful lips will be established forever, But a lying tongue is [credited] only for a moment.

Those who have a lying tongue may seem like they are thriving for a season, but this one thing is for sure they will come to ruin but as for those with truthful lips, they will be established forever! So, stay encouraged!
