Mark 12:30-31 NKJV
And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
God is life and he is love. His kingdom is built on the law called LOVE. Love God and love people that would make a good summary of the bible, but love has to be defined from God’s perspective, not ours because he is love.
It is so difficult to hide love because it is the nature of love to find an expression. God so loved the world that he expressed himself by giving. Love cannot be hidden because it must be given to be of any value.
God is love, and everything he does springs from love. He created us with the capacity to give and receive love, and we cannot experience the abundant life that Jesus came to give us if we do not walk in love.
We are to love God with all our hearts, minds, and soul. That means loving him with our whole being. No pretence, no coercion, no empty ritualistic actions but genuine pure love. That he would captivate our hearts, captivate our minds and our will would be surrendered to his.
To say that you are part of God’s kingdom, but you do not abide by the law of Love, is to be deceived.
The standard of the quality of love we should have for one another is the sacrificial love that Jesus has for us.
We are also commanded to love our enemies and to do good to those who persecute us.
But, as someone asked me the other day,
“is it possible to love everybody?”
In our strength it is not possible, but when we allow the love of God in us to flow, then it is possible. This love is not based on what the other person does or does not do, it is unconditional love that he places in us when we make him Lord over our lives.
Who is the one person that you truly love the most? Why?
What about your life demonstrates that you love God with all your heart, mind and soul?
How can you demonstrate love to your neighbour today?
