The Character of God: Jehovah Tsidkenu

Jeremiah 23:5-6 NKJV
5 “Behold, the days are coming,” says the LORD, “That I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness; A King shall reign and [a]prosper, And execute [b]judgment and righteousness in the [c]earth.6 In His days Judah will be saved, And Israel will dwell safely;
Now this is His name by which He will be called: [d]THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.

When the Prophet Jeremiah spoke this words, things were not rosy with the children of Israel. The kingdom of Judah was about to fall. The people had totally digressed from Gods path for them and the land was full of idolatry and oppression. The northern kingdom had gone into captivity for many many years and Judah seemed not to have learned anything from this.
No matter how many times we try we can never attain right standing with God based on our own strength. The bible says that
Isaiah 64:6 NKJV
6 But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousness’s are like [a]filthy rags;
We all fade as a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, Have taken us away.

The book of Romans tells us that there is no one righteous not even one. No matter how many times man tried to get into right standing with God, he could not and the journey of the children of Israel clearly depicts that. One season they do the right thing, the next they are completely off doing the very things that God detests. Jeremiah prophesies that a day will come when a king will reign from the lineage of David and this king will be called The Lord Our Righteousness.

Jesus is our Jehovah Tsidkenu. He is our righteousness and there is no way we can have right standing with God except through Jesus Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:21 NKJV
21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

What we could not do Jesus has done it or us and not only has he done it for us, he has given righteousness to us freely as a gift all we have to do is embrace it in faith and through him we become the righteousness of God.
Jesus is our Jehovah Tsidkenu the Lord our Righteousness!
