The Character of God: Jehovah Jireh

Genesis 22:13‭-‬14 NKJV
Then Abraham lifted his eyes and looked, and there behind him was a ram caught in a thicket by its horns. So Abraham went and took the ram, and offered it up for a burnt offering instead of his son. And Abraham called the name of the place, The- Lord -Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, “In the Mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”

Abraham’s story is a story of faith and trust in God. He believed God for a son even when he was old in age and his wife Sarah was way past the age of child bearing. God was faithful to keep his promise to Abraham and Isaac was born. Can you imagine the joy and the celebration that must have surrounded the birth of Isaac? This was a miracle. A woman who was barren all her life and now past the child bearing age had just delivered a child.

With that in mind I cant even begin to imagine what Abraham went through when God told him to sacrifice his son. That must have been hard and traumatic but Abraham obeyed in faith believing that God was able to raise his son from the dead if need be.

It is when we walk in obedience to the direction of God that he provides. Abraham experienced the provision of God on the mountain when God provides a ram for sacrifice to take the place of his son which was also a prophetic episode to signify how God would sacrifice his Son Jesus for the redemption of the world.

God is a provider when we walk in obedience to his leading. He can do exceedingly abundantly above all we can think or imagine He knows what’s best for us and his will is perfect. Trust Him, he will take care of you.
