Strengthening the inner man

Ephesians 3:16 AMP
May He grant you out of the riches of His glory, to be strengthened and spiritually energized with power through His Spirit in your inner self, [indwelling your innermost being and personality],

When we are born, our physical bodies are tiny but they don’t remain that way. As we feed on milk we start to grow and soon enough we are weaned from the milk and we start digesting more solid food. This causes us to grow and as much as we grow into adulthood, one thing is consistent, we have to keep on feeding our bodies, in fact many of us do this at least 2 or 3 times a day without fail. If we fail to do so then our physical bodies start to shrink and in due course if we don’t feed, our bodies die. The same applies to our spiritual man. God through his Holy Spirit that dwells in us has already given us the power to be strengthened and spiritually energized but we have a part to play, we have to activate that power. What we feed our spirit man on will determine his growth. The process of growth and renewal of our mind is our responsibility.

One of the things that characterized the early church is their growth and the quality of believers they raised up and this was due to the fact that the spiritual man was well fed and that manifested in the physical.

Acts 2:42 AMP
They were continually and faithfully devoting themselves to the instruction of the apostles, and to fellowship, to eating meals together and to prayers.

They devoted themselves to certain things, being taught, fellowship and eating together and prayers. To devote means they put their time energy and focus into this things. They were serous about it and it was a daily practice not something casual they did once a week or once in a while, and the results were evident. The teaching transformed their minds causing them to live out what had already be accomplished on the inside. The fellowship helped them edify one another as they kept good company and grow in godly relationships as a family. The prayers kept them dependent and connected to their father and their source. These were the believers who turned the world upside down yet without the technology and resources we have today.

Just like with the light bulb in our homes today, unless we flip the switch, we will not get enjoy the power though it is there. May we switch on the power of God in our lives as we devote ourselves to ensure the spirit man is fed and he grows.

Reflective Thoughts.
Just as you have a schedule to feed your physical body, do you have a schedule to feed and nourish your spirit man?

Even as feeding is important, what you feed on is equally important. What are you feeding your spirit man?

Knowing that the feeding of your spirit man is your responsibility, what do you resolve going forward?
