Proverbs 12:13-14 (AMP)
13 An evil man is [dangerously] ensnared by the transgression of his lips, But the righteous will escape from trouble.14 A man will be satisfied with good from the fruit of his words,
And the deeds of a man’s hands will return to him [as a harvest].
One of the most accessible way for you and I to be a blessing to ourselves and others is through the words that we speak. Words have power to direct and create. It is sad that some believers are casual and careless with the words they speak and more so today where the meaning of words have been twisted so that a bad thing is supposed to be good and that has become common even amongst believers.
The tongue is an instrument that should be used to be a blessing to those around us.
Proverbs 15:4 (AMP)
4 A soothing tongue [speaking words that build up and encourage] is a tree of life,
But a pervasive tongue [speaking words that overwhelm and depress] crushes the spirit.
As a believer you and I should use our tongues to be a blessing and an encouragement to those around us. In so doing we become a tree of life that others can come and pick fruit from. No one wants to be around a person who is consistently negative and always pulling them down.
When we hide the word of God in our hearts then we are able to speak it to those God brings our way giving them hope and encouragement and also igniting faith into their life because faith comes by hearing and hearing the word of God.
God told Joshua;
Joshua 1:8
8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall read [and meditate on] it day and night, so that you may be careful to do [everything] in accordance with all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will be [d]successful.
This scripture is loaded with a powerful secret about having a successful life and it begins by reading the word and confessing it while meditating on it day and night and doing what it says. Then the results of that will be success in all we do.
A pastor friend invited me to visit their church and when I did, one of the things that deeply blessed me is that throughout the service, several times the whole congregation would stand up and speak a blessing over their life by making declarations based on the word of God over their lives. I thought wow! This ought to be a practice that every believer embraces.
Use your tongue today to be a blessing to God as you praise Him, to be a blessing to others as you speak encouragement and hope and to be a blessing to yourself as you declare Gods word over your life.
