2 Timothy 3:1 NKJV
But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come:
Paul wrote the letter to Timothy while in a cell in Rome knowing full well that his end was almost near.
He tells Timothy that in the last days there will be perilous times. I believe that we are closer to the end in comparison to when Paul was writing this letter to Timothy.
Think of a pregnant woman, she knows that her time to deliver is nearby the severity and intensity of her pains and I believe it will be so with the last days. As much as we have had periods and seasons of hard times over the ages, the more we get closer to the end the more the severity and intensity of the pains.
The word used for severity here is the Greek word chalepos and it is used only one other time in the new testament in Matthew 8:28 referring to the 2 men in the region of Gedara who were possessed by demons.
It is a word that means fierce, violent, dangerous, and frightening.
This means that in the last days we will experience days that will be frightening and dangerous, days cull of violence and fear and when you think about it, are these not the days we are living in?
How then do we stand in these last days, how do we remain faithful?
By staying in the word. Jesus said that he is the vine and we are the branches and if we abide in him and his word abides in us then we will bear much fruit.
Now more than ever we should strive not to be conformed to the patterns of this world but to be renewed in our minds so that we may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Do you believe that we are living in the last days? Why?
What will you do to ensure you remain standing in these last days?
Paul and the Apostles endured lots of persecution even unto death for the sake of the gospel, do you love the Lord and his word to that degree?
