Have you ever been lost wandering out there in the middle of nowhere? You have no idea which direction to go and there is nothing in sight to give you an idea where you are headed. Imagine the relief when you come across a signpost telling you there is a petrol station or hotel 2 miles ahead. Suddenly there is some hope birthed in you, in fact you move quicker and with purpose the focus is to get to the destination the sign is pointing to because you are assured that once you are there then you will get direction on how to get to where you want to go.
Jeremiah 31:21 (MSG)
“Set up signposts to mark your trip home. Get a good map. Study the road conditions. The road out is the road back. Come back, dear virgin Israel, come back to your hometowns.
You and I who believe are to be the signposts that the world looks at to find their way home but what good would a signpost be if it is not giving any direction?
(John 17:20-21)When the church of Jesus Christ walks in unity then it becomes a sign to the believers to show that God sent Jesus. Unity does not mean uniformity. Just as the body is made of different parts but operates as one also people are gifted differently but by the same Spirit for the edification and unity of the body. This goes hand in hand with Love as demonstrated in (John 13:34-35)
Peter tells us in (1 Peter 3:15) to always be ready to give a logical defense to anyone who asks us to give account to the hope that is within us. The hope that we hold on to when displayed becomes something that makes the world so surprised that they have to inquire about it and once they do then it becomes the perfect opportunity to witness to them.
Then there is the famous scripture concerning the light and good works (Matthew 5:16) When people see our good works it acts a signpost that they start giving glory to our father in heaven.
As the bible says that though we are in this world, we are not of this world and therefore there needs to be distinction between how we live out our life compared to those who do n ot know Christ.
What kind of a signpost are you and where are you directing people to?
