Crossing the Jordan
JOSHUA 3:5 AMP
Then Joshua said to the people, “Sanctify yourselves [for His purpose], for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders (miracles) among you.”
The children of Israel are about to cross the Jordan into the Promised Land and God gives them specific instructions for crossing. They are to focus on the Ark, they are to move when the Ark moves and follow it. However in doing that they have to maintain their distance so that they can see the ark and know the way to go. From that we have learned to focus on God, get out of our comfort zone and follow Him and not to take the things of God casually.
Joshua then tells the children of Israel to sanctify themselves for this purpose, to cross over and enter the land. To sanctify is to set apart for a holy purpose. It is to set free from sin and purify. To sanctify also means to make legitimate or bidding by a religious ceremony. To cross the Jordan we each must take the personal responsibility to sanctify ourselves. We cannot live and think the way the world thinks. Through faith in Christ, we must be free from sin, made legitimate in Gods kingdom and bound to God.
2 TIMOTHY 2:21 AMP
Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from these things [which are dishonorable –disobedient, sinful], he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified [set apart for a special purpose and], useful to the Master, prepared for every good work.
You cannot live like the rest of the world and expect to be useful to the master. The Bible says that though we are in this world, we are not of this world and that should be seen in the way we live life.
Crossing the Jordan means going the way you have never gone before and starting life in a way you have never lived before, it’s a new thing that God is doing but then the question is, are you ready for it? Have you set yourself apart for it?

Take that personal responsibility to set yourself apart, to sanctify yourself by allowing Christ to live in you and you in him daily.
