Remember the Mission

This week we are reminding ourselves of some very critical and important things that are to govern our way of life and perspective as Christians after the electioneering season that we are in. We have talked about Gods sovereignty and also the fact that our citizenship in heaven. Today we look another important aspect and that is the mission.

Matthew 6:33 (AMP)
33 But first and most importantly seek (aim at, strive after) His kingdom and His righteousness [His way of doing and being right—the attitude and character of God], and all these things will be given to you also.

Our first and most important responsibility on a personal level is to seek first the Kingdom of God; no one can do it for you. As we continue to grow in this kingdom, we also MUST bring others into it. This also is a responsibility that is given to every believer but sadly, many of us have left it to the pastors and evangelist.

Matthew 28:19-20
19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations [help the people to learn of Me, believe in Me, and obey My words], baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe everything that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always [remaining with you perpetually—regardless of circumstance, and on every occasion], even to the end of the age.”

As long as we are here on earth, this is our full time responsibility, we are to go and make disciples of all nations. It would be pretty hard to do that if during the election period you were out there on the front line hurling insults at others and displaying hatred and tribalism. Each one of us is to teach others to observe everything that Christ has commanded us. It would also be hard to teach others to observe something you are not observing yourself.

How do you teach love when you have NOT displayed it yourself?
How do you teach forgiveness when all you have displayed over the last couple of months is hatred?
How do you teach reconciliation and kindness when all you have been displaying is division and selfishness?

We need to always remember that we have a higher calling, the God we serve reigns supreme; He is the sovereign King of kings and Lord of lords. We are citizens of heaven and we are here to propel the will of God in everyday affairs on earth. Thirdly we have a mission to seek God first and to bring others into the kingdom. As long as we are here on earth and Jesus tarries the mission remains the same. Whether our candidate wins or loses the election our mission remains intact. May we gain the right perspective to keep the main thing as the main thing.
