13 So I went out at night by the Valley Gate toward the Dragon’s well and to the Refuse Gate and inspected the walls of Jerusalem which were broken down and its gates which were consumed by fire.
This one thing is for sure, rebuilding the walls will cost you. Whether it is your time energy or resources, it will cost you something and you will have to make great sacrifices. Nehemiah was a wise man. He took time to go to the ground and assess the situation himself. He had to find out for himself what the real situation on the ground was and what challenges would he have to contend with as he embarked on his quest to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem.
I am reminded of the two spies that Joshua sent to Jericho to scout the city and the walls in Joshua 2. Just like Nehemiah Joshua did his homework, he had to find out what he was going up against.
Have you counted the cost now that you want to rebuild the broken down walls in your life? Be it the wall of prayer or self-discipline, finances or relationships. What will it cost you? One thing we always have to remember is that God has his part and we have our part and God will in no way come down to do our part. Have you counted the cost; do you know what you are getting yourself into?
Jesus had something to say about counting the cost;
28 For which one of you, when he wants to build a watchtower [for his guards], does not first sit down and calculate the cost, to see if he has enough to finish it? 29 Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is unable to finish [the building], all who see it will begin to ridicule him, 30 saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish!’
Yes God is for us but even with that, we must consider out part and count the cost before we start lest we give up halfway because the cost becomes too much for us to pay. There are many who had a burden and even prayed but because they failed to count the cost, they gave up on their quest because they were not willing to give what it takes to get the desired results. Do not be counted among that number.
Have you considered what it will cost you to rebuild the broken walls in your life?
Are you willing to pay the price?
Are you prepared for the opposition that lies ahead?
Today’s Declaration based on Philippians 3:8
I choose to count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I am willing to suffer the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ
