Nehemiah 1:3 AMP
They said to me, “The remnant there in the province who survived the captivity are in great distress and reproach; the wall of Jerusalem is broken down and its [fortified] gates have been burned (destroyed) by fire.”
When Nehemiah inquired about what was going on back home, one of the things he was made aware of is that the gates of Jerusalem had been burnt down and destroyed by fire.
Gates hold an important significance in our spiritual walk. Gates give access into and out of the city. Think about this, he who controls the gates determines what goes in and out of the city. In today’s terms this is what we would call border patrol. You may have a strong wall but of the person who controls the gates is corrupt then you are still vulnerable.
Gates also act as a portal that give you access from one world to another. In Genesis 28 we see Jacob experiencing a gateway to heaven when he has a dream.
Gates are a place of power, they are the place where decisions are made, decisions that will affect all who are in the city. For you and I this is the place where decisions that affect our lives are made. Remember Jesus said he would build his kingdom and the Gates of hell would not be able to prevail against it.
This week we take a journey to discover the gates in our lives and how to rebuild them and fortify them so that we can live a victorious Christian life.
