Put God First

Lessons from Joshua
Exodus 20:3 (AMP)
3 “You shall have no other gods before Me.

One of the things that speaks out loud in Joshua’s life is that he was a man who was on a mission and in everything he did he sought to put God first.
One of the famous verses that we all love to quote is found in;

Joshua 24:15
15 If it is unacceptable in your sight to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve: whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you live; BUT AS FOR ME AND MY HOUSE, WE WILL SERVE THE LORD.”

When the children of Israel seem bent on going astray to serve foreign Gods, Joshua gathers them and gives them a brief history of where they have come from and some of the mistakes their fathers made. He goes on to tell them what God expects of them and the results and promises of serving God diligently. He reminds them that they have a choice to make but he declares to all that as for him and his house regardless of what the rest may choose to do, He and his household will serve the Lord.
Because of his strong convictions and his love for God he was able to influence others to do the same. As a leader of Gods people for you to walk in the fullness of what God has for you and also for you to able to lead the people into their promised land, you have to put God first in everything that you do. You and I cannot afford to be unstable serving God today and dedicated to other gods the next day. Like Joshua we have to make a strong resolve and walk in it, that we will put God first in all we do. That it is not about what we want but what God wants. That no matter what we see in the natural and what our enemies are planning, we will put God first and follow after His leading because it is only when we do that that we will have true success.
