Prince of Peace

Isaiah 9:6 (AMP)

6 For to us, a Child shall be born, to us, a Son shall be given; And the government shall be upon His shoulder, And His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

If there is one thing that the world has been chasing after but it always seems to be elusive it is peace. Peace was lost by the first family in the Garden of Eden when Adam and his wife Eve ate of the tree they were told not to eat off. We see one of their sons murdering his brother, perfect peace had disappeared and now there was a disruption in the family and on earth.

Shalom, the Hebrew word for peace is much more than just an absence of conflict. Shalom is you and I flourishing ion the right relationship with God while also flourishing and in harmony with all of God’s creation.

Jesus is the prince of peace because He came to restore the peace that was lost in the Garden of Eden.

John 14:27 Amplified Bible (AMP)

27 Peace I leave with you; My [perfect] peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be afraid. [Let My perfect peace calm you in every circumstance and give you courage and strength for every challenge.]

His peace is perfect and it is nothing like the kind of peace that the world has to offer. His peace can even bring peace to nature as we see him calming a storm that threatened to capsize the boat they were in simply bay proclaiming his peace over the natural elements. ( Matthew 8)

The peace of the world is dependent on what is happening on the outside but we all know that while it may seem calm on the outside, the inside may be boiling and it’s only a matter of time before we see an explosion. The peace that Jesus gives is supernatural and it is not affected by what is happening on the outside. It is anchored on the inside on who Christ is and what He has done for us.

This peace that Jesus gives is twofold, peace right now despite what is happening around us and the second is a promise for tomorrow because the prince of peace will come back again to take us to Himself and we will live in perfect peace for eternity.
