Luke 10:40-42
40 But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.”
We all have values and whether we know it or not, it is our set of values that determine the choices that we make in life.
Take Mary and Martha for instance, they both have the same opportunity but because they have different values they choose differently. Martha is busy serving and attending to their guest Jesus and she is worried and troubled about many things. To her ensuring that Jesus was made to feel comfortable and served well took priority in her set of values. Probably because she really wanted to make a good impression on Jesus, then she was worried and troubles about many things.
Mary on the other hand valued something different. To her spending time with Jesus was more important hence she sat at his feet to listen to what Jesus had to say and to spend quality time with him.
Martha was not pleased with this because she wanted Mary to be like her and she even tries to use Jesus to pressure Mary to be like her but Jesus did not.
Are you under pressure to conform and be like someone else yet you don’t share the same set of values? Sometimes like Mary we choose the good thing and we are pressured by others who would want to make us feel like our choice is not good. Do not conform, stay true to your values just like Mary did. You may face ridicule and sometimes insults but stay true to your God aligned values because they will get you where God wants you to be.
Reflective Thoughts.
What is that one value that you hold on to yet others don’t seem to understand?

What sort of pressure have you received because of holding on to these values?

Do you find yourself being apologetic and having to explain yourself a lot because of your values? Stand firm and be proud of your God aligned values.
