Yesterday we talked about the Holy Spirit and who he is. He is the third part of the trinity, God the Father God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. We came to the realization that the Holy Spirit is not an it. In that case then does He have a personality?
1 Timothy 4:1 (AMP)
But the [Holy] Spirit explicitly and unmistakably declares that in later times some will turn away from the faith, paying attention instead to deceitful and seductive spirits and doctrines of demons,
One character of the Holy Spirit is that He speaks; the issue usually is how many of us are keen enough to recognize his voice? Would we know it if we heard it? Not only does He speak, He also bears witness of Jesus. The Holy Spirit is also an intercessor, continually making intercession for us just as Christ does.
Romans 8:26 (AMP)
26 In the same way the Spirit [comes to us and] helps us in our weakness. We do not know what prayer to offer or how to offer it as we should, but the Spirit Himself [knows our need and at the right time] intercedes on our behalf with sighs and groaning’s too deep for words.
The Holy Spirit also has a will because when talking about the gifts of the Spirit in 1 Corinthians 12:11 Paul says the Spirits distributes to each as He wills. As we interact with the Holy Spirit and as we live out our life it is important to also know that we can grieve the Holy Spirit meaning He has feelings.
Ephesians 4:30 (AMP)
30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God [but seek to please Him], by whom you were sealed and marked [branded as God’s own] for the day of redemption [the final deliverance from the consequences of sin].
When we begin to understand all this attributes and personality of the Holy Spirit then it opens up our eyes to see how we are meant to relate to Him and what His purpose in our lives is all about. Just like Jesus had a personality when He was here on earth and people interacted with Him, some at a more personal level than others, so it is with the Holy Spirit.
Knowing Him helps us know how to relate with Him, he is the companion and helper, the teacher that Jesus left us with. He will never leaver leave us nor forsake us. Let us know Him and learn how to interact with Him.
