Galatians 5:22 (Amplified version)
22But the fruit of the [Holy] Spirit [the work which His presence within accomplishes] is love, joy (gladness), peace, patience (an even temper, forbearance), kindness, goodness (benevolence), faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such things there is no law.
When we talk about peace, the picture that always comes to mind is one of Jesus asleep in a boat right in the midst of a raging storm. The disciples were frantic, frustrated and in fear. They were shouting and unsettled and they wondered how Jesus could sleep in the midst of such calamity and danger. Jesus must have known something that they did not know; He must have had an inner assurance that the disciples did not have.
That assurance on the inside is what the Holy Spirit ministers to us and as a result we are peaceful even when things on the outside are seemingly not ok. The peace that is a fruit of the Holy Spirit is not dependent on what is happening on the outside, it is not a peace that comes because all is well, no, it is peace not because of the absence of conflict and a storm, the peace that the Holy Spirit gives us, is the sweet contentment we get from trusting the Lord right in the midst of the storm.
John 14:27
I give you peace, the kind of peace that only I can give. It isn’t like the peace that this world can give. So don’t be worried or afraid.
A lot of people in Kenya today are worried because they don’t know what the future holds. As a nation we have never found ourselves in such a position as we are in today. For you and I who profess the name of the Lord, it should not be so. Not because we live in a bubble shielded from the problems that others face on a day to day basis, but because of the peace that Christ promised us. As long as we are in his will, As long as we are following His instruction to cross over to the other side, then we have His peace. Do you find yourself in a raging storm today yet you know you are in His will? Are you screaming for help? Are you asking the Lord if He is really concerned about your predicament? Well the Lord would ask you today “why are you afraid? Don’t you have any faith in me?
