Naming your Problems

1 Samuel 17:26 NKJV
Then David spoke to the men who stood by him, saying, “What shall be done for the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?”
What name have you given to your problems? Have you given them a name that is so terrifying it scares you even to conquer them?
When David goes out to get supplies to his brothers who are in Saul’s army and are out to war against the Philistines, he collides with a very interesting scenario. The Philistine “giant” comes out to challenge the Israelites for a duel and the whole army hides in terror. Saul and his army see Goliath as a giant, a mighty man of war, a man who cannot be defeated and thus they run in terror and none is willing to step up and face him. This had been going on for 40 days and no one in Israel was willing to face Goliath because in their eyes he was a problem that was impossible to conquer, that’s how they saw him, that’s how they named him.
Interestingly, to David, Goliath was just another philistine. In fact he was an uncircumcised philistine meaning he had no covenant with God so to David this was a small problem and he could take care of it. His perception of the God he served was greater.
Many times like the Israelite armies and Saul the king, we name and magnify our problems until in our eyes they become bigger than our God that’s why we hide worry and panic. Never once in the ministry of Jesus do we see him worry and panic this is because he knew his father was greater.
So, how do you name your problems? Have you given them a name that is bigger and greater than God? Are they as big as Goliath and are you hiding in fear? Remember the name of Jesus is greater than any other name and at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord.
Reflective Thoughts.
