My Lord My Shepherd: He Exalts Me

Psalm 23:5-6 NKJV
5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will [d]dwell in the house of the Lord [e]Forever.
The most amazing thing about our God is this; when we come to him not only does he forgive us our sins and embrace us into his family, he does not give us what we deserve because of our sinful ways. Remember the wages of sin is death. Instead, he goes on to bless us exceedingly and he gives us what we do not deserve! The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
David says that the good shepherd prepares a table before him in the presence of his enemies. This table is an implication of a meal that has been spread out, more like a high table when you have an important occasion. Not only does the Lord protect you and I from our enemies, he also elevates and show us honor in the very presence of our enemies. To me this is more like a seal of approval. He demonstrates to our enemies that he approves of us and we belong to him.
Not only does he set up a table, he also ensures that your cup runs over. He doesn’t just fill it, he ensures that it flows over. He is the God of more than enough. This should give us the reassurance that God will supply not just what we need but more than we need if we stay close to him and allow him to lead us.
Because of the Lords favor and approval, goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life. That sounds so nice and spiritual but what does it really mean?
Goodness and mercy talks about Gods kindness, cheerfulness, pleasure and grace. It is Gods best following me. Think about that for a minute, I am not running after it, I am not chasing after it, I am not begging for it rather Gods goodness and mercy are following me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever!
Amen!
Reflections
As the Lord sets a table for you in the presence of your enemies, what should your attitude be?
Do you have a scarcity mindset or a more than enough mindset when it comes to resources?
What does goodness and mercy following you all the days of you life mean to you?
