Keys to Abundant Life – Bearing Fruit

John 15:5-6
(5) I am the Vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in Me and I in him bears much fruit, for [otherwise] apart from Me [that is, cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing. (6) If anyone does not remain in Me, he is thrown out like a [broken off] branch, and withers and dies; and they gather such branches and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.

Back in the village, there is an avocado tree that’s just next to my dad’s house. This tree is always green and it looks like the healthiest tree in the compound. I remember growing up when we would visit the village, the avocado tree always had fruit but no one bothered with it. I later came to realize that the avocados this tree produced never benefited anyone because they would rot instead of ripening. The tree had some sort of disease that prevented the fruit from ripening, as soon as the fruit would form, it would start rotting.

The purpose of life is to bear fruit. Fruit bearing is so important to God that any branch that is connected to the vine yet it bears no fruit, Jesus says the father will cut it off. In the same manner, every branch that does bear fruit will be repeatedly pruned so that it can bear more fruit.

How fruitful is your life?
What kind of fruit are you bearing?
Are you like the avocado tree looking good and green yet the fruit that you bear is rotten?

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” Galatians 5:22-23.

Winning souls should also be a fruit that is evident in our lives. We are to go into the world and make disciples of all nations and we are to teach them all that we have been taught meaning we are to produce fruit that is like us the same way Christ produced Fruit that was like Him. The cycle has to continue.

Proverbs 11:30
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he who is wise wins souls.

Our lives should also be characterised by the fruit of praise and thanks giving, because we are grateful for all God has done for us.

Reflections;
What are some of the fruits that are evident in your life today?

Just like a mango tree does not consume its own fruit, so it is with us. Who are the beneficiaries of your fruit?

Knowing that God is looking for fruit, what will you do to ensure you produce much fruit?
