1 John 2:1-2 NIV
“My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.”
Christ in His intercession serves as our advocate. He answers all charges brought against us. Satan may accuse us before God, but Christ by His intercession answers all these charges. He can say, “No one and nothing can bring a charge against these that are mine. The Law has been fulfilled.”
Christ has been called to stand at our side, having paid our debt for all our sins, and then remains beside us, claiming us as His own, defending us, sympathizing with our struggles and lifting us up when we are weak. Whether we are in need of a lawyer or an encourager, Jesus Christ is called to our aid.
1 John 1:9-10 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.”
We have forgiveness in Christ when we sin. As we make choices throughout our day, we come along in step with Him or walk away from Him. Jesus is indeed our advocate. May we press more deeply into His grace to keep His commandments and love always flowing out of our lives.
