2 Timothy 4:3 (AMP)
3 For the time will come when people will not tolerate sound doctrine and accurate instruction [that challenges them with God’s truth]; but wanting to have their ears tickled [with something pleasing], they will accumulate for themselves [many] teachers [one after another, chosen] to satisfy their own desires and to support the errors they hold, 4 and will turn their ears away from the truth and will wander off into myths andman-made fictions [and will accept the unacceptable].
The bible says a time is coming when people will not endure sound doctrine and I believe the times spoken of are the times we are living in now. We live in the information age, an age where you can find any information you want at the click of a button and because of this, people are spoilt for choice. Many no longer want to hear sound doctrine especially if it touches on areas of their life that they would rather not deal with. Instead they would rather look for teachers who suit their own passions. The bible says they have itching ears. They do not want to hear the full council of God through His undiluted word instead they want a message that will sooth their ego, a message that will tell them that all is ok no matter what they do, after all God is s God of grace right?
We see a lot of people taken advantage of especially financially by men and women who have become professionals at deception because they have realized that people do not read the word of God for themselves, many will depend on what the pastor will say and they will take that to be the gospel truth. This attitude has caused many to come up with their own doctrines that promise prosperity and peace and many have lost their hard earned cash for this.
Do you have itchy ears? Do you always look for teachers who will preach the kind of message that you want to hear?
2 Timothy 3:16 (AMP)
16 All Scripture is God-breathed [given by divine inspiration] and is profitable for instruction, for conviction [of sin], for correction [of error and restoration to obedience], for training in righteousness [learning to live in conformity to God’s will, both publicly and privately—behaving honorably with personal integrity and moral courage];
All scripture is God breathed, even the parts that you may not necessarily like or even the parts that you may feel are too harsh, all of them are God breathed and they are profitable to instruct you, one so that you may be convicted of your sin, second so as to correct you and set you off in the right direction restoring you to obedience. This word in its completeness is also a training tool for you and it trains you wholesomely not just one part and leaving the rest out. Can you imagine how you would look like if only one part of you received training and the rest was neglected? This word will train you wholesomely in righteousness both publicly and privately so that you may live in conformity with God’s will.
