Influence and Impact: Dispel Darkness

Matthew 5:14-16 NKJV
14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
Darkness can only take complete reign in the absence of light. No matter how thick the cover of darkness, it will always bow when light shows up no matter how small the light is. Jesus tells us that no one lights a lamp and puts it under a basket. This tell me that there is no such thing as an undercover Christian. We are to be put on a lampstand so that we can give light to all those who are in the house.
Now you may be asking, How do I shine my light? its not like we are walking around with literal lights. Well verse 16 answers that question for us. Shinning our light is connected to our good works. In a generation where good works are so rare, when you show kindness compassion or sympathy, you create headlines.
Ephesians 2:10 NKJV
10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
God prepared before hand the good works that we who believe in Jesus Christ should walk in. It is through these good works that the world will see God in us. I am reminded of the good Samaritan. Though we do not know his name, we still talk about the good works that he did so many years ago. In fact to this day, everyone who does a good deed demonstrating kindness is called a “good Samaritan” His good deeds shone a light into the future, and the light is still shinning till today.
Because I have declared to be a believer in Christ, I have been put on a lamp stand and I am expected to shine forth light. Can those around me see the light through my good works or am I showing forth works of darkness like the lost?
Reflections
A lamp is lit and put on a lampstand to light the whole room, how have you been put on a lampstand?
How is your shinning light affecting those around you?
What are some good works we need to see more off among the believers?
