2 Kings 2:9-10 NKJV
And so it was, when they had crossed over, that Elijah said to Elisha, “Ask! What may I do for you, before I am taken away from you?” Elisha said, “Please let a double portion of your spirit be upon me.” So he said, “You have asked a hard thing. Nevertheless, if you see me when I am taken from you, it shall be so for you; but if not, it shall not be so. ”
Elisha had walked with Elijah and he had seen how the Spirit of God would move upon Elijah and he would operate in the power of God, in prophesy, healing and working of miracles. God would use him to declare words of wisdom and knowledge, the man operated on a level of faith that was unseen and Elisha desired all that. He asks for a double portion and from Elijah’s answer we can see that it is not up to him to give Elisha this gift, it is up to God and God does grant Elisha the desire of his heart.
By the leading of the Holy Spirit, the gifts of the Spirit can be imparted from one person to another. We see the same thing in the life of Timothy.
I Timothy 4:14 NKJV
Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the eldership.
Through a prophetic word and the laying on of hands, a Spiritual gift was imparted on to Timothy and we see Paul urging him not to neglect this gift but rather in faith, to put it into use.
The same word still applies to us today. Sometimes through a prophetic word, a Spiritual gift is imparted to us but because it was not accompanied but lots of drama, we do not take it seriously and we ignore it.
After Elisha saw Elijah taken up to heaven, he believed that he had been given a double portion of what Elijah had and immediately he goes on to put to use what he has been given.
Has a Spiritual gift been imparted to you through a prophetic word or laying on of hands by a servant of God? Did you take it seriously? Do not neglect it!
Reflective Thoughts.
Has a Spiritual gift ever been imparted on you by a word of prophesy or the laying on of hands? Did you take it seriously or casually?
