Humility and Obedience

2 Chronicles 7:13‭-‬14 NKJV
When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people, if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

Imagine if you had a child and every time they did wrong and you disciplined them to correct them they acted sorrowful and seemed sorry for their actions and you forgave them but no sooner had you done that then they went back and did the very same thing. They did not change their ways. How would that make you feel as a parent? I am sure you would feel disappointed. Though they keep confessing their wrong, they never repent from it. Is that not how we treat God? We run to him with lots of emotions and confession but we do not change our ways.

God says if my people who are called by my name shall humble themselves and pray….. Now let’s be honest, we are good at that especially here at home in Kenya. We love to pray and seek his face but its the next part of the scripture that we need to look at, it says….. And turn from their wicked ways…… It is pointless to humble yourself and pray without turning away from your wicked ways. In fact this would be false humility intended to manipulate. It is at the point of turning from our wicked ways and embracing his ways that the Lord promises to hear from heaven and heal the land.

God uses situations like we are experiencing now to get our attention back to Him that we may seek his face, humble ourselves to pray. To walk in obedience to his word and in humility. To love one another and not take things for granted.
His desire is to come in and heal our land. When we walk in obedience to His word then we are guaranteed of his blessing. No wonder, he loves us so much He reminds us through His word and circumstances to keep His laws so that then we can benefit from his blessings.
