Humble Yourself

1 Peter 5:6-9 (AMP)
6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God [set aside self-righteous pride], so that He may exalt you [to a place of honor in His service] at the appropriate time, 7 casting all your cares [all your anxieties, all your worries, and all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares about you [with deepest affection, and watches over you very carefully].

Humble yourself. This is what Peter tells us meaning it’s a choice that we have to make. This is something that we can choose to do or choose not to do. You and I have to make the choice to set aside self-righteousness and pride. It is only when we choose to do so that we can receive the free gift of salvation that God offers us through Jesus Christ. As long as we walk in pride and self-righteousness then we will not see the need to receive salvation.

To humble yourself before the Lord is to serve him and to depend on Him and his word. It is to come to that place where you make the choice to trust in Him with all your heart and not lean on your own understanding. When you think about it, to go through life without reading the bible is to live life in a position of pride because what you are saying in essence is that you know it all and you do not need God to guide and direct you. It is to say that you know better and you have everything all figured out. God has hidden himself in His word and those who are careful and humble enough to read it and apply it in their life will God reveal Himself to. Only those who humble themselves to depend fully on that word to guide them through life will enjoy all that God has laid out for us.

The place of humility is a place of dependence fully on God. It is a place where you and I cast all our cares and anxiety on Him trusting that He cares and watches over us.
Jesus humbled himself and became a man so as to give us salvation. You and I also have to humble ourselves in order to receive it and we have to walk in that same humility to enjoy all the benefits that Gods plan of salvation offers to us.

Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, set aside self-righteous pride, so that He may exalt you to a place of honor in His service at the appropriate time.
