Honoring God

MATTHEW 22:37 AMP

And Jesus replied to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’
If we believe in God and that He is sovereign, then we must honor Him. We have men and women in high positions whom we call honorable but when you look into their lives there is nothing much to call honorable. With God, it is not the case. As we say, God is good all the time and all the time and that is His nature.

But what does it mean to honor God?

To honor God means to respect Him. It means to give Him reverence and admiration. It means to walk in submission and obedience to him. You cannot honor God with your lips only which is what many do today. Jesus said;

LUKE 6:46 AMP

“Why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not practice what I tell you?

To honor God means you do so with every facet of your life. You and I must honor God with our hearts. He has to come first in everything we do; the driving force behind all we do must be to please Him.

God deserves honor because of who He is and what He has done for us.

He is our creator the one who gave us life and continually sustains us. He remains faithful even when we are faithless. We honor him when we recognize that in Him were all things created and without Him, there would be nothing created. When you and I see Him for who He is then we honor him because recognize His awesomeness and splendor.
Do you know Him or do you only know of Him? Many people only know of Him and that is why they do not honor Him. All they have is second-hand information from others but they have ever had any real and meaningful relationship with God on a personal level. They do not know Him.

When you truly know Him then you will honor him with everything about your life, you will not hold anything back. As Revelation 4:11 says; “Worthy are You, our Lord and God, to receive the glory and the honor and the power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they exist and were created and brought into being.”
