Matthew 12:34 NKJV
For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.
One of the most amazing gifts God gave man is the power to speak. Words have power so much so that in the book of Genesis God spoke and things came to existence. But before we talk about the power of words, it would be good to understand why we say the things we say. According to Jesus, that which fills and dominates one’s heart dictates what they say. There is no way you can fill your heart with bad negative things and in turn speak good positive things. When we open our mouths then what is in our hearts spills over.
Proverbs 4:23 NKJV
Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life.
Our hearts are precious and they are constantly under attack because the enemy knows if he can infiltrate our hearts with ungodly stuff then it will spill out when we speak and our words will direct our lives. The heart here is talking about your thoughts and your emotions.
What you see and what you give your ear to governs your heart. It is said that the ears and the eyes are the doors to our soul thus to guard our hearts we have to be deliberate about what we hear and what we see. Remember faith comes by hearing and the word tells us not to confirm any longer to the patterns of this world but to renew our minds. That happens when we hide the word of God in our hearts to do what it says.
As it is said, guard your thoughts because they become words. Guard your words because they become actions. Guard your actions because they become your habits Guard your habits because they form your character. Guard your character because it directs your destiny.
