Proverbs 31:16-18
16 She considers a field and buys it; from [e]her profits she plants a vineyard.
17 She girds herself with strength, and strengthens her arms.
18 She perceives that her merchandise is good, and her lamp does not go out by night.
The Proverbs 31 woman is a hard worker and a wise woman. Even when it comes to money and resources, not only is she a good manager, she also knows how to multiply her resources and put them to good use.
She is a woman who is careful to purchase items that her family needs. She considers a field and buys it. This tells me she is keen to extend the family’s territory, she is a woman who understands what it means to take dominion. She ploughs her profits back into something that will bear more fruit. This is one woman who has good business sense and she is a great investor.
Her hands are ready to work and thus she strengthens them. The Bible says that the Lord will bless the works of our hands and this one thing is for sure, the Proverbs 31 woman puts her hands to work and the Lord blesses her. She has mastered her craft and she does her business with great perception. Verse 18 says that she perceives that her merchandise is good. She makes linen garments and sells them and supplies sashes for the merchants. This is a woman who understands the importance of having various sources of income, she understands investments.
One great lesson we can learn from her is that she is involved, she is not reactive, she has a plan, she thinks through her business and she has great knowledge of the market. The bible says faith without works is dead. Sometimes as believers we pray and hide in the prayer closet. We look like we are afraid to go out into the marketplace to take over. This woman is not that kind of a person. She takes care of things at home and she goes into the marketplace with the blessing of her husband and children and she takes dominion. That is what the church of Christ is supposed to do, go into the world and take dominion because we have the backing and blessing of Christ the head of the church.
