Joshua 1:8 NKJV
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
Humans are creatures of habit and most of what we do is driven by habits. As it is said, you form your habits and then your habits form you. Think about this, why didn’t God just tell Joshua to read the book of the law and do what it says and all will be well? Why did he break it down bit by bit?
I believe, this scriptures also give us the formula of creating habits.
Many of us believers read the Bible but we do not do what it says, we struggle because we have already formed other habits that are contrary to what Gods word says and just reading will not necessarily change that. Habits are strong and they take us in auto pilot mode. We have habits that we don’t like but its such a struggle to change them.
The book of the law is God’s truth and that should be what informs our way of life. We should speak about it and meditate upon it day and night and that is the formula then that leads us to break old habits and form new habits that are in line with Gods laws. Reading speaking and meditating on Gods word ignites our faith, the kind of faith that propels us to action.
Jesus said that if we love him then we will obey his commands. We will not be like those who praise him with their lips and their hearts are far away from him.
If we love him then we will love his word, we will speak his word, we will meditate on his word and we will do what his word says.
As the bible says;
James 1:22-24 NKJV
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.
