God’s Love Language: Faith the Key to Obedience

Hebrews 11:6 (AMP)
6 But without faith it is impossible to [walk with God and] please Him, for whoever comes [near] to God must [necessarily] believe that God exists and that He rewards those who [earnestly and diligently] seek Him.
You have probably heard of the five love languages by Gary Chapman. The five love languages describe five ways that people receive and express love in a relationship. These are words of affirmation, quality time, physical touch, acts of service, and receiving gifts.
But have you ever thought of God’s love language? What could it be? Jesus answered that question for us in John 14:15 when he said; “If you love me, you will obey my commands.”
What Do I really believe about God? Do I believe that He has a good plan for my life? I know that is what the bible says, but do I really believe it? Do I believe that the God I serve is all knowing and all powerful, and that nothing is impossible with Him?
The reason I ask myself these questions is this; if I truly believe and if I truly love God, then why do I find it challenging to obey?
What other way can you please God apart from walking in obedience? Before you walk in obedience, you must first believe that God exists and that He is all that the word says that He is.
The Bible says that faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of the Lord.
Without faith, then it becomes hard to obey. Without the word there is no faith meaning there is no obedience and I cannot claim to love God if I do not obey.
This one thing I have realized today, it’s not what I say or what I know but rather it is what I believe in the depths of my heart that determines if I will walk in obedience and demonstrate my love for God or not.
If I am struggling to obey, then I had better go back to the basics to find out what I sincerely believe.
Reflections
Of the five love languages, which one makes you feel most loved?
If God’s love language is obedience, does your lifestyle demonstrate how much you love him?
Faith is the gateway to obedience, and faith comes by hearing and hearing the word of God. How much time do you give to the word every day?
