“You visit the earth and cause it to overflow; You greatly enrich it; The stream of God is full of water; You prepare their grain, for thus You prepare the earth.”
See God’s Hand in Every Detail
I always picture David sitting out in the field, watching his sheep, writing songs and poems to the Lord. As he inspects the bounty that God has blessed him with, he begins to pen a Psalm of seeing God’s hand in every part of the process. God causes the earth to overflow. Overflow is a term that expresses God’s provision. He greatly enriches the earth by making the stream full, preparing the grain, and getting the earth ready for planting. All of this is done before the planting or the harvest. He is involved in every detail.
We Are Participants
People try to manipulate God’s blessings. They use Him as a cosmic Santa Claus who grants them their every wish. That’s not how He works. God brings the overflow, but we are participants in the process. He makes the stream full and prepares the land, but we have to till the soil, plant the seed, water the fields, and harvest the fruit. It’s our job to acknowledge Him through the whole process and give Him thanks along the way.
God Brings the Overflow
God wants to bring the overflow into your life, but if you’re firmly planted on the couch, not willing to put in the work, it won’t work for you. He is looking for co-laborers willing to plant, water, and harvest. Don’t think you have what it takes? Don’t worry. He will give you everything you need to do the work. Remember, Jesus is in the details and wants to see you thrive.
