Galatians 5:22-23 New King James Version (NKJV)
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 [a]gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
God is faithful and trustworthy and we can trust in Him. What if we turn the tables, can God consider you and I faithful? That’s a question I have been asking myself as I think about this scripture. If God was looking for a man to accomplish an important assignment, would he look my way? In my own strength I cannot make it, I cannot be faithful because the flesh is waging war against the Spirit and truth be told sometimes it seems to be gaining ground.
That’s why you and I need the Holy Spirit to birth the fruit of faithfulness in us. I remember back in the day I would say that I cannot give my life to God because I know myself and I know I would disappoint Him because I don’t have the strength to remain faithful to Him. Maybe you said or are saying the same statement.
As we have fellowship with the Holy Spirit and allow Him to have influence over our life, He births faithfulness as He continues to reveal God to us. The more we know Him the more we trust Him and the more faithfulness grows.
The bible tells us of people like Joseph, or Daniel and his three friends who remained faithful to God even in the midst of persecution and death and that should serve as an encouragement to us. Think of Job and all he had to go through yet he remained faithful.
In our walk we will experience doubts and fears, there are times we will even question if God is truly with us or whether He even loves us and God knows that we will go through all that. We will be tempted to walk away and gratify the desires of the flesh.
That is why we have the Holy Spirit, to teach us, guide us and strengthen us. Just as a seed stays in fellowship with the soil to take in water and the needed nutrients for it to grow and bear fruit, may we consistently stay in fellowship with the Holy Spirit that His fruit may be birthed in us.
