Luke 8:11 (NKJV)
“Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.”
It is said that any fool can count the seeds in an apple but only God can count the number of apples in a seed. When you look at a seed at face value, it looks small and worthless. It looks like nothing much can come out of it until you plant it in the right kind of soil, you water it and give it time. Soon that seemingly worthless seed will germinate and produce one hundred fold and if you keep repeating the process it will continue to produce because God promised that as long as the earth remains, there will always be seed time and harvest time!
The word of God is the same. To some it is just an ordinary book that occupies space on their bookshelves while to some it is the very life of God.
The word of God is a seed and what it needs is a heart that will connect to it by faith because faith is that secret ingredient that brings the life out of that seemingly dead word. God told Joshua not to neglect the book of the law but to read it, meditate on it, speak it day and night and to do everything that it says. That is the process of giving the word a chance to take root in your heart and bear fruit in your life.
Just like with the natural seed, there is that magic ingredient that only God knows that makes the seed to germinate and bring forth life instead of dying.
When we read this word, it ignites faith in us for the word says that faith comes by hearing and hearing the word of God. It is this faith that causes us to act according to what the word says because faith without works is dead.
As with the parable of the sower, may we recognize that the word is a seed that is full of potential and if our hearts are the right kind of soil then the seed will take root, germinate to produce forth fruit in our life. When we read the word of God may we read it with the recognition that it is a seed, may we give it time to germinate and bear forth fruit in our lives as we meditate on it and speak it night and day.
When you read the word, do you view it as a seed, and how does that apply to your life? Has the word of God ever bore fruit in your life? what happened?
The word of God is a seed capable of reproducing fruit in your life over and over and over again. Read it and believe it with a heart of faith!
